Toastmasters Club Celebrates 45th Anniversary
Ocean State Toastmasters, which is based in Warwick, Rhode Island, and is one of the oldest Toastmasters clubs in the state, is celebrating its 45th anniversary with an open house and a dinner. The open house will take place Tuesday, Nov. 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Lower Conference Room at Warwick City Hall. Those who attend will witness a Toastmasters meeting in action. The club will also observe the anniversary with a dinner meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Greenwood Inn, Warwick. All past and present members of Ocean State Toastmasters are invited to attend. Toastmasters, which was founded in 1924 at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, is dedicated to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. At meetings, members practice and learn both speaking and leadership roles. The organization currently has nearly 235,000 members in 11,700 clubs in 92 nations. Ocean State Toastmasters was chartered in October 1963. For years, it was one of a handful of community clubs open to the public in Rhode Island. In recent years, a number of clubs have formed within companies in Rhode Island, bringing the total number of both community and corporate clubs in the state to 16. Ocean State Toastmasters played a role in chartering many of these new clubs. For more information on Toastmasters, call Ed Skurka at (401) 828-1625 or e-mail him at edskurka@verizon.net To make a reservation for the anniversary dinner, call Ann-Mary Currier at (401) 467-1896 or e-mail amc@theCurrier.com The fee for the dinner is $25 per person. Also, please contact Ann-Mary Currier if you are a past member of Ocean State Toastmasters and have a story, or photos to share.
