RI Toastmasters to Host Champion Speaker
Rhode Island Toastmasters will host Katherine Morrison, winner of the Toastmasters Region Seven International Speech Contest, on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 9:30 a.m. at the Cumberland Public Library, 1464 Diamond Hill Road. Morrison, a member of Center Speakers, a Toastmasters club in West Roxbury, Mass., will deliver the speech that won the Region Seven competition. Region Seven includes states from New England to Virginia. In August, Morrison will be one of nine competitors vying to be the World Champion of Public Speaking at Toastmasters International Conference in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The International Speech Contest begins at the local club level. It progresses through the area, division, district and regional levels. Toastmasters is an 84-year-old organization that offers training in public speaking and leadership skills. Last year, the organization established a separate division for Rhode Island, Division G. Rhode Island has 16 clubs.
